About Arno Yurk
Arno Yurk was Vice President of Design at Landscape Forms for 26 years prior to his retirement in 2012. He brought fifteen years of experience as a practicing architect to his role at Landscape Forms where his creative insight and expertise in the unique requirements of site furniture and its function in outdoor space significantly advanced the company’s collaboration with leading international design partners. Arno, who holds several design patents, designed numerous signature Landscape Forms products including the Scarborough, Gretchen, Manistee and Petosky benches, and the Carousel table with attached seating which received an IDEA Bronze Award.
Designed for the urban landscape, Scarborough is street smart, yet sophisticated. Lighthearted, but a true heavyweight in its class, it scribes a controlled curve on seat and back, then tempers restraint with the exuberant gesture of its arm.
Scarborough is welcoming and comfortable in two
versions. The horizontal strap seat is clean and simple.
The woven seat suggests the familiar strapping
fabric of patio furniture. The patented design is
assembled as a warp and weft construction of
pre-formed parts. The backless Scarborough bench
can be used from either side and is ideal for narrow
spaces. Litter receptacles with strap or square bar
vertical panels are nicely scaled to the bench and the
human form. Scarborough transcends categories.
It is remarkably durable not only in the way it wears
but in the way it remains current over time.
