About Robert Chipman
Robert Chipman, ASLA has been designing award-winning furniture for Landscape Forms since the early 1990’s. A practicing landscape architect, he is founder and principal of Robert Chipman Landscape Architect in Austin, Texas. Chipman is an outdoorsman and climber dedicated to location sketching. His furniture design process is hands-on and sculptural, bringing expertise from a landscape architect’s point of view to the site elements that complement outdoor space. In addition to the IDEA award-winning Chipman chair and the growing Chipman line of seating and tables, his designs for Landscape Forms include the Plainwell and Austin benches, the Catena chair, Sorella planters, and the Solstice umbrella, winner of IDSA Gold & Best of NeoCon awards.
Austin blends modernist inspiration into a new interpretation that’s as timely as today. Landscape architect Bob Chipman hit all the right notes in his design
of a receptacle that’s an ideal companion to its namesake bench and
a handsome stand-alone solution for a variety of outdoor settings.
Shared Austin themes are reflected in the tapered conical body and
ribbing of the litter that echo the tapered supports of the bench, and in
the “bird’s mouth” lid that mirrors the relation between the bench seat
and back. The ribbing frames the unit’s side door, adding visual interest
and providing functional support for the door hinges. A domed stationary
lid shields contents from view and helps keep out rain and snow.
